How To Get The Medalum

You can get the Medalum weapon for Maelle by winning the Arena Tournament in Gestral Village. You need to use Maelle as your fighter, and she has to defeat the final opponent, “The Stranger,” to win the weapon.

To unlock the tournament, you’ll need to talk to the village chef, Golgra. However, she will not allow you to join the tournament at first. You must first provoke her into a fight four times while playing as Sciel.

Here’s when and where you can fight Golgra:

  • First fight: Right after your first visit to Gestral Village, once you’ve completed the Gestral Tournament.
  • Second fight: During Monoco’s relationship side quest, which takes place at the Sacred River.
  • Third fight: At the Dark Gestral Arena.
  • Fourth fight: When you return to Gestral Village later in the story. You’ll get the option to provoke Golgra again, do it to trigger the final fight.

You don’t have to do the second and third fights in any specific order. As long as you’ve fought Golgra at both the Sacred River and the Dark Gestral Arena.

Fight Strategy

Golgra’s combos have a slight delay, so parry and counter them. The hit that goes unblocked can deal between 5,000 to 7,000 damage. Most characters will go down immediately if they miss a block.

  • Equip weapons that scale with Vitality or Defense and max out those stats to boost your character’s resilience. Recoats can also help if needed. Recovery Pictos, like Second Chance, are also important for recovery.
  • Once you are able to fight Golgra’s combos and can parry them, use Augmented Counter to increase health much faster.
  • Characters who can break and Stun can fill up Golgra’s meter multiple times during the battle. Using Burn can also speed up the fight, but to deal with damage, you’ll need to stack it up quickly.
  • Second Phase: When Golgra drops below half health, she enters her second phase, changing her form and using longer, more complex combos. Be extra careful when she makes the ground shake. This attack requires a jump counter followed by a gradient counter. Even though Golgra looks like she’s on fire in her second phase, she’s neither immune nor resistant to fire damage.

Once you’ve fought her all four times, speak to her again in Gestral Village to unlock the tournament. Win the final battle with Maelle, and you will get Medalum. If you’ve already got the weapon, you’ll get a free upgrade for it instead.
